Pay from Another Bank or Credit Union

At 1st Bergen, we make it easy to pay your loan from an outside bank or credit union if it is your preferred payment method.

  • Pay Online: Our secure payment portal by MessagePay can be used to make one-time payments from your other bank or credit union through ACH, or by using a debit card. Debit card payments will incur a convenience fee.

  • Pay by Text: If you provided us with a cell-phone contact number, you will receive a text reminder 5 days before your loan is due, and a courtesy reminder if your loan is overdue. The text will include a link to our secure payment portal to authorize an ACH or debit card payment. Once you’ve paid this way before, you can simply text “PAY” when you receive a monthly reminder to make a loan payment from your external account. You can opt out of receiving text messages at any time.

  • Pay by Phone or Email: If you’ve set up your external account information in the secure payment portal, you can make a payment by calling (201) 968-0202 during regular business hours or by emailing membersupport@1stbergen.com.

  • Pay by Bill Pay Check: If your other bank or credit union offers Bill Pay, you can add 1st Bergen Federal Credit Union at 392 Main Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601 as a payee to have a Bill Pay check sent automatically each month. Please schedule payments to be made at least 5 business days before your loan due date to ensure on-time payment. 1st Bergen is not able to receive electronic payments through Bill Pay.

  • Pay by Wire Transfer: You may pay your loan by initiating a wire transfer for a fee. Please click here for wire transfer instructions.

Secure Payment Portal Setup

Adding an external account is simple in our secure payment portal from MessagePay. If you encounter any issues, please call us at (201) 968-0202 or email membersupport@1stbergen.com.

  1. Visit the secure payment portal website

  2. Type in your member number and your birthdate

  3. Set a 4 digit PIN to secure your information

  4. Click or tap “Add New Card” or “Add New Bank Account” and enter your external account information

  5. Once your account is verified, click or tap “Make Payment Now” to make a loan payment.


Pay from 1st Bergen Account

It is easy, safe, and fastest to make a loan payment from a 1st Bergen account. By funding your share or checking account through Direct Deposit, recurring transfers, Zelle, or peer-to-peer deposits like Venmo and Cash App, you can be assured your loan payments will always be on time.

  • Automatic Transfers: Automated transfers can be set up through online banking, or contact us for assistance.

  • One-Time Payments: One-time transfers can be made through online banking, or through the 1st Bergen mobile app.

  • Pay by Phone: Call us at (201) 968-0202 during business hours to authorize a loan payment from your 1st Bergen account.

  • Pay in Branch: Cash & check payments can be accepted in any branch during business hours, or in the overnight drop-box for next day processing.

Text Reminders

If you provided us with a cell-phone contact number, you will receive a text reminder 5 days before your loan is due, and a courtesy reminder if your loan is overdue. The text will include a link to our external payment portal. If you have a scheduled automatic payment or will make a transfer through online banking, you do not need to make a payment through this portal. We send these informational texts as a courtesy to you, and you can always opt out of receiving text messages.
